OM651 2.1 CDI – several four-cylinder diesels have had a problem with a seal ring between the engine and the timing chain tensioner. The issue is neither a big problem to resolve, nor an expensive one. However, it can lead to a fire, since the oil can drip on the hot surface of the engine.

The W166 M-Class (also called ML-Class) is a mid-size luxury SUV made by Mercedes-Benz from 2012. The previous generations had just one body type and this one started off the same, but the 2015 facelift brought a change in the name and additional SUV Coupe body type. Moreover, the same facelift brought the first hybrid in this range.
The W166 is aimed mostly at the US market, although it has been sold very well elsewhere. It was named the most ideal vehicle for Americans in the Luxury Crossover SUV category after a comprehensive study by AutoPacific and, compared to the previous model, it offered more modern design, clearly based on the restyled E-Class, more room at the back, new engines and transmission options, a hybrid version and loads of hi-tech features as standard.
The 2015 facelift brought a new body style and a change in name, not being M- or ML-Class any more, but the GLE-Class, signifying that it is an SUV counterpart to the revered E-Class in terms of size, equipment and positioning within the lineup.

The first generation of the M-Class came at the end of the previous century and, despite its teething problems, it was a major success for the company. The second one came in 2005 and it moved the car up a notch in every respect. Most of the problems disappeared with this one and it went even further with the 2009 facelift which made the car better looking, more efficient and less problematic.
The 2012 model year went further in the same direction and brought a whole new car in the form of the W166. It was packed with new features such as Attention Assist, Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control, Lane Departure Warning System, AirMatic with adjustable height and ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM. Furthermore, it came with a whole new design which brought it significantly closer to the E-Class revamp. Lastly, even though the car has been in production for more than three years, there are not many common problems, so the W166 seems like a solid car.
The facelift came in 2015 and it introduced a new nomenclature system in which the M-Class became the GLE-Class. The most notable change to the W166 was the introduction of the first ever hybrid M-Class. Based on the newly-named GLE, the coupe version also came in January 2015 (marked C292), featuring sleeker body aimed at younger buyers. The GLE Coupe is also very reliable, sharing the platform, parts and interior design with the W166 with the only difference being the body styling.
