Best cleaning products for your Mercedes

A Mercedes is more than just a car. That would be like saying a meal in a Michelin restaurant is just a bite to eat or Bohemian Rhapsody is just some music. Like anything that surpasses the sum of its parts in this way, you will want to keep your Mercedes looking its best – after all, the rigours of day-to-day use can leave any vehicle in need of love and attention, both inside and out.
If it were any old car, you might leave it with the local car wash to give it a power wash and a hoover, but many Mercedes owners like to lavish some personal care on keeping their pride and joy looking its best. So with that in mind, here are some of our favourite products to add to your car care kit.
You wouldn’t use a squirt of washing up liquid on your favourite child, and we feel that your Mercedes deserves the same respect. Joking aside, household detergents can damage the paintwork, so use a proper car shampoo that is designed specifically for the job. Autoglym is always a good bet, and CarPlan Triplewax is a long-standing best seller for a reason.
With the bodywork clean and dry, you need to apply a good wax and polish to get a super shiny finish and keep your Mercedes looking like new. There is nothing wrong with good old-fashioned Turtle Wax here – you probably remember applying it to your Dad’s car, and chances are, he remembers using it with his Dad’s too! Again, the Autoglym range is also a safe bet, and for something a little different, you could try Mer Deep Gloss Finishing Wax. This is designed to go on quick and leave a water-resistant finish.
Cleaning the interior is a job to take your time over. You would be surprised how much dust and grime can accumulate so quickly around the dashboard, gear lever and handbrake. Use a good all purpose cleaner such as Meguiars. It works on practically every sort of upholstery, including leather, but always check the label and try an inconspicuous test spot first, just to be on the safe side.
Here’s a useful tip to remember – glass windows have two sides. You would be astonished at how grimy they can get on the inside, chiefly because very few people remember to clean them there. Again, avoid household glass cleaner, as it can cause damage to the automotive glass. Armor All provides an ammonia-free glass cleaner that is specifically designed for car windows and mirrors.
Nothing sets a car off quite so well as a gleaming set of wheels. It is a fiddly, but rewarding, job. In fact, get a stool to sit on and take your time – you’ll soon see that it is really a very therapeutic way of spending some time on a Sunday afternoon. Valet Pro offers a wheel cleaner that does not contain acid and is, therefore, safe to use on all types of alloy wheels.
